Treleaven Ready to Ship to Pennsylvania Customers
Pennsylvania residents rejoice – the new liquor law signed by Gov. Tom Wolf back in June has opened the door for direct-to-consumer shipping from winemakers nationwide, and Treleaven has just been approved for a direct shipper license to Pennsylvania.
That’s right – Pennsylvania residents will now be able to have their favorite out-of-state wines shipped to their door. The historic legislation, which went into effect Aug. 8, makes Pennsylvania the 44th state to allow direct-to-consumer shipment of wine.
Gov. Tom Wolf signed into law the bill that expanded beer and wine sales statewide, legalizes the sale of wine in grocery stores, permits hotels and restaurants to sell wine for off-premise consumption, permits casinos to serve alcohol 24 hours a day, expands hours for the state-run Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) stores on Sundays and holidays and allows consumers to have up to 36 cases of wine per year, per winery delivered to their homes from out-of-state wineries.
“We’re really looking forward to shipping our wine to our great customers in Pennsylvania,” Club Liaison, Abby Christman, said. “We have a huge following from that area, but people were never able to take advantage of our Dollar Ship Club or have the ability to just order a few bottles of their favorite wine when the craving hit.”
“This law will not only vastly improves wineries’ outreach, but it will drastically improve consumer convenience,” added Christman. “There’s a lot of wine lovers in Pennsylvania, and we can’t wait to start shipping them our wine!”
Act 39 lifted the following restrictions to direct shipping:
⋅ Direct-shipped wine must be for personal use, and anyone who results direct-shipped wine is subject to fines and criminal penalties.
⋅ Direct-shipped wine is subject to state and local sales tax and a $2.50 per gallon wine excise tax.
⋅ Direct wine shippers are required to verify proof of age of the recipient of the wine prior to shipping.
⋅ As of August 8, 2016, direct-shipped wine need not be wines not otherwise available for sale by the PLCB.
